Our Processes

We have fine-tuned a number of scrim processes, thanks to our technical expertise and development capabilities. From the beginning of the process, up to the final finishing details, we have our routines down to a science.

Laid

James Dewhurst have a broad range of capability in laid scrims allowing production of widths from 100mm to 5m. The laid scrim process is in-house technology, developed in Altham, to give a high-speed, high volume process.

Scrims can be produced with a square shape pattern (orthogonal) or diamond shape pattern (triaxial). The construction can be varied from 0.4 ends per cm to 4 ends per cm. The volume and width of products available from the laid scrim process gives a security of supply with a short lead time to satisfy the most demanding customers requirements.

With experience of polyester, nylon and glass yarns from 76dTex to 12,000dTex in laid scrim manufacture in fabric densities from 0.4 to 4 ends per centimetre, James Dewhurst have the scrim processes to solve your reinforcement problem.

Laid scrims are used in roofing, flooring, tapes, automotive, aerospace, composites, hygiene, medical, packaging and many other industries.

Woven

With over 60 looms to choose from, ranging from 1m to 5m in width, there is a loom for every product at James Dewhurst. We have flexible rapier, rigid rapier, and projectile looms available to us. With the ability to produce low pick to solid fabrics, with plain, leno and complex weaves, we are confident that our production facilities will be able to provide you with the specific reinforcement solution that you need.

With experience of polyester, nylon, glass, and polyamide materials as spun, multifilament and continuous multifilament yarns and rovings in a wide range of yarn densities and fabric densities, James Dewhurst have the scrim processes to solve your reinforcement problem.

Woven scrims are used in belting, roofing, flooring, tapes, automotive, aerospace, composites, hygiene, medical, packaging and many other industries.

Skewed

At James Dewhurst we have developed a high speed skewing process that can yield a range of skew angles in the weft, whilst maintaining a high quality distribution in the warp yarns.

These fabrics are used in demanding engineering applications to give high quality multi directional strength. With experience of a wide range or yarn types, yarn weights and fabric constructions, James Dewhurst have the scrim processes to solve your reinforcement problem.

Coating

All of the laid fabrics are coated during the manufacturing process. Woven fabrics can be coated during manufacture or coated in a secondary process. Our process can support water based and PVC coatings. Intelligent machine design, coupled with a thorough understanding of web processing, results in high quality consistent products to satisfy even the most demanding applications.

When combined with the technical knowledge and understanding of coating chemistry from our formulation development capabilities, James Dewhurst have developed the scrim processes to solve your need for functional performance and reinforcement.

Laminating

James Dewhurst have three laminating machines capable of combining scrim with glass polyester and cellulosic materials. This is accomplished at a high production rate and high quality to yield reinforcement solutions for a wide variety of markets, from construction to geotextiles. If you have other material needs, please contact us and we will work with you to develop the product you need.

Mixing

James Dewhurst have the capability to formulate and manufacture adhesives at its own manufacturing site. This allows James Dewhurst to create specialist coatings tailored to customer needs.

Formulations have been developed for applications requiring flame retardance, conductivity, anti-microbial activity, re-melt characteristics, water repellency, water solubility, solvent resistance, acid resistance, and alkali resistance.

Whatever your performance requirement, we have the ability to develop a solution. With access to a wide range of materials and in-house formulation capability, James Dewhurst is an ideal partner for developing a solution to your reinforcement problem.
